A couple overlooking the Grand Canal in Venice

It all started in Venice.

We’re Agus and Daniella, from Uruguay. In 2017, we were in Venice and wanted to take a gondola ride, but paying the full fare for just the two of us felt like a lot.

At the gondola station, we noticed another couple, Lino and Daniela from Naples, and wondered if they might want to share. Approaching them wasn’t easy. We had no idea if they were even looking to share a gondola, or if they’d be comfortable riding with two strangers.

We asked anyway.

They said yes. The four of us shared the gondola, split the cost, and had a great time together.

But the whole thing depended on luck. We happened to find the right people, in the right place, at the right time. There was no easy way to know who else was actually open to sharing.

Years later, that idea stayed with us. Sharing a gondola shouldn’t mean approaching strangers and hoping for the best.

That’s why we built Share a Gondola.

FAQ

Do we have to be a couple?

No. Share a Gondola is for any two people traveling together.

Is Share a Gondola a tour company?

No. Share a Gondola does not operate gondola rides or sell seats on shared tours. We simply help two independent groups of travelers find each other before the ride. Once matched, you meet in Venice, take a regular gondola together, split the fare between your groups, and pay the gondolier directly.

Can a ride be confirmed at the last minute?

No. You'll always know at least 1 hours before the meetup whether your ride is confirmed.

How late can another pair join?

An open ride can be joined until 1 hours before the meetup.

Do we need to upload a photo?

No. A photo is optional and is only shown after the ride is confirmed.

What if the other party cancels?

The other party is notified immediately and the ride remains in your history.

Is Share a Gondola free to use?

Yes. Share a Gondola is free to use. You pay your €45 share directly to the gondolier.

What happens if no ride is available right away?

After email verification we automatically open one request using your selected times. If another eligible pair joins one, the ride is confirmed.

Do we need to share a language?

Normally, yes. You can opt in to sharing without a common language, but both pairs must choose that option.

Can I change my availability or language preference?

Yes, until another pair joins. Edit your open request and changes take effect immediately.

What if more than one pair is available?

You choose the time, and the system quietly selects one eligible waiting pair. You never browse a catalog of people.

Where do we meet?

All rides meet near Rialto Bridge. Once your ride is confirmed, we'll show you the exact meeting point and map pin.

Can I create another request while I already have one open or a ride confirmed?

No. A verified user can have only one active request or confirmed ride at a time.
